Despite icy conditions, the annual PNGA winter meeting was held on January 11th in Harrisburg at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. A minute of reflection was requested in memory of long-time member Lester Martin Jr. Many changes have taken place in the organization and will continue to take place throughout 2017.
We have a new slate of officers and directors, the Nut Kernel (our quarterly newsletter) is back in print, and a committee has been formed to rewrite the constitution and by-laws. More efforts are underway to grow rootstocks for grafting.
Don and Ann Jackson were in charge of the PNGA’s both for the entire week of the farm show. Members brought their freshly cracked nuts to sell to the public, and despite 2016 being a particularly poor year for nut growing, people from all over the state brought their entries to be judged.
